The Rise Of The Middle Kingdom

This week, The Economist’s special report on China

1. Brushwood and gall
2. The fourth modernisation
3. Less biding and hiding
4. In the balance
5. Friends or else
6. Strategic reassurance

I am a bit baffled by the fears from the west, especially America on the unprecedented rise of China. But indeed, isn’t its ascent indispensable as we really need someone to stand up to the awfully ARROGANT America? Which is undoubtedly the greatest threat to the global political stability. Just have a look at Iraq, Afghanistan and perhaps Iran in the near future. Hasn’t China been a peaceful neighbour and superpower in the east, so far?
